As if the last 18 months didn’t bring enough drama to the aircraft manufacturer, Boeing reported yesterday that they found debris in the fuel tanks of several brand new 737 MAX planes. The fuel tank debris was discovered during maintenance of parked planes, and Boeing claims they immediately made corrections in its production line to prevent a reoccurrence.
This is a potential serious safety issue. The metal debris in the fuel tank increases the risk of electrical short-circuits and possible fires.
Boeing is still hoping to have the 737 MAX certified to fly again sometime this summer. I just don’t see how that timeline is possible after this new discovery.
