There are three major airports in the Washington, DC region: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). Avoid them next week.
The country is in turmoil. After the riots at the US Capitol last week and the threats of more violence next week–the week of the inauguration–I would strongly encourage avoid flying in/out of any of the three DC airports–at all cost. This includes any layovers. Unprecedented steps to reduce the risk of additional violence are already in place such as the deployment of the National Guard and additional police–and closing down access to the National Mall.
The National Guard will beef up their presence at all three of these airports, American Airlines has banned alcohol on all flights in/out of DC airports, and Airbnb has canceled all reservations in the DC area for next week. This is a big deal. Take advantage of the new airline’s ‘no change’ fees and adjust your tickets accordingly, if at all possible. Next week will be a mess in the DC area. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and there won’t be any additional violence.
Do you have plans to fly in/out of DC next week?
