American Express just released their latest platinum card offers. One of the most valuable of these can earn you 10,000 Member Rewards points for your next weekend ski trip.
Vail is the place to be during ski season. If you’re in the market for a Colorado ski trip, you will earn 10,000 points if you spend $500 at the Vail, Beaver Creek, and Park City Resorts. This offer is valid until March 31, 2021.
My Take
I love these types of Amex offers–where you spend $500 and get 10,000 points. Amex will offer these several times a year. Not all of them will fit into your plans or lifestyle, but I consider them the most valuable in the Amex offer portfolio.
I would transfer those 10,000 points from Amex to British Airways for a free flight. Allow me to explain.
To give you some perspective, I often fly transatlantic with British Airways–or their Oneworld partners–and have earned BA elite status for several years for my loyalty. I get a bunch of perks from this status like access to business class lounges (worldwide) and upgrades to ‘extra legroom’ seats on flights on all Oneworld partners even when flying economy.
American Airlines is part of Oneworld. Consequently, I often fly American when flying domestically. Not always, but often enough to enjoy the perks regularly. I use the British Airways website to shop for American flights from my hometown of NY to Miami. This method gives the most value to these points.
A one-way economy flight from JFK to Miami (nonstop) will cost 9,000 Avios and only $5.60. On this particular route there is often plenty of reward availability. I’ll get ‘upgraded’ to a seat with extra legroom for free and get access to the American’s awesome flagship lounges in both JFK and Miami airports. This is a fantastic value. Anyone can use the BA search tool to find these flights. You don’t need to have status or even be a regular BA customer.
The idea would be to turn a weekend ski trip (only if you intended to take one anyway) into a free flight which I typically take several times per year. I don’t make a habit of spending money on Amex offers that aren’t part of my normal spending pattern, so I won’t be taking advantage of this particular offer. However, it is definitely worth mentioning for those who can make it work. Keep in mind, it’s not worth racking up 10,000 points by spending several hundred dollars on unnecessary purchases. Only use these offers if they work for you.
Will you take advantage of this latest Amex offer?
