No Cruising Anytime Soon

This should not be a surprise–Carnival Cruise Lines just announced they are in the process of notifying their customers of cruise cancellations for cruises already booked. They are extending their pause in U.S. departures through April 30, 2021, and canceling Australian operations through May 19, 2021. This delay includes Carnival’s entire portfolio of global cruise lines: Princess Cruises, Holland America, Seabourn, P&O Cruises (Australia), Costa Cruises, AIDA Cruises, P&O Cruises (UK), and Cunard.

In addition, Carnival has cancelled the European itineraries for Carnival Legend which were to begin this May through Oct. 31, 2021, and moved the start date for Mardi Gras from Port Canaveral, with the first cruise now set for May 29, 2021.

Some of my best travel memories are from cruising, but you have to be extremely brave to book a cruise in 2021. I know cruise lines are offering steep discounts and promotions, but there is so much uncertainty when cruising will be safe again. For those who are fortunate enough to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, or have the antibodies from recently recovering, you may want to consider a cheap cruise toward the end of the year. For everyone else, I don’t expect cruises to be in our future until 2022 at the earliest.
