REAL ID Deadline Postponed

Trump just announced that the deadline to obtain an enhanced license will be extended because of the coronavirus pandemic. The deadline was October 1, 2020, but is extended to promote social distancing when local motor vehicle offices reopen. As of the time of this writing the new deadline has not yet been determined.

Without the REAL ID license, people would’ve not be allowed to board domestic flights within the United States unless you have one of the following Department of Homeland Security acceptable forms of identification.

  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. passport card
  • DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)
  • U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents
  • Permanent resident card
  • Border crossing card
  • State-issued Enhanced Driver’s License
  • Federally recognized, tribal-issued photo ID
  • HSPD-12 PIV card
  • Foreign government-issued passport
  • Canadian provincial driver’s license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card
  • Transportation worker identification credential
  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
  • U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential

Is your driver’s license up to date?
