Coronavirus is all over the news and the outbreak has severely affected the travel industry. Most airlines have stopped flying to China, and things are likely to get worse before they get better. On the brighter side, there are two active American Express card offers I wanted to share in case you’re interested in a cruise. Remember, you can book a cruise a couple of years in advance–well after the coronavirus pandemic is behind us. Just be sure to put down the minimum deposit that triggers the offer.
These offers may general (available to everyone with any Amex card) or targeted (for a specific card or based on spending patterns). Both of these were available on my platinum card, and may be available on others in the Amex lineup. They both offer huge Membership Rewards bonuses.
The first offer is for Carnival, Holland America, Princess, Seabourn, or Cunard; and it will get you 10,000 points for spending $500. That’s a pretty sweet deal. An example of the potential value of 10,000 points is one roundtrip economy ticket from New York to Florida.
This second offer is for Uniworld or U River cruise, and boasts a 30,000 point bonus. Although the higher spending threshold is $1,000, that bonus is tremendous. 30,000 points is the largest I ever see with Amex offers, and it is rare to they offer a bonus that high.
Bottom Line
As with any Amex offer, only purchase something you already intended to buy or were strongly considering anyway. If a cruise was in your future, then taking advantage of either offer is fantastic. Many of these offers can really help to boost your point balance for future travel.
