American, Alaska and Delta Airlines Ban Emotional Support Animals

The new year brings many changes to the airline industry including the ban of emotional support animals on American, Alaska, and Delta airlines. This is in response to the United States Department of Transportation ruling last month allowing airlines to make the decision whether or not to accommodate emotional support animals. Prior to the ruling these airlines were mandated to allow these animals. It should be noted that service dogs are still permitted on these airlines.

Will other US airlines follow suit? It’s certainly possible. These rules change quickly. My advise…if you intend on flying with an animal, call your airline before you book a ticket or fly on an existing ticket. The last thing you want is to be at an airport with your beloved canine and have an issue.

What are your thoughts on this new policy?
